There’s nothing quite like having live plants in your home. They not only add color and vibrancy, but they also can improve the air quality in your home. Some plants are easy to keep alive, and some are rather delicate. In honor of spring, we’ve compiled a list of the five easiest and trendiest houseplants to keep in your home!

5. African Violets lend a brightness to the room; their purple color is brilliant, and the plants are small and easy to care for. They do tend to prefer in indirect sunlight, and can grow in artificial light, so they are a great option for darker rooms and/or offices.

4. English Ivy is a great choice for the bathroom or office! It is a beautiful hanging choice because of its shape. English Ivy absorbs formaldehyde (fund in cleaning products, as well as furniture and carpet treatments). It also can absorb small amounts of benzene, a chemical found in paint, office equipment, and some chemical cleaning agents. English Ivy is also a great selection for people with pets, as it combats airborne bacteria.

3. Aloe Vera is an excellent choice for anyone–even those who do not possess a green thumb– because it is so easy to keep alive. It also works double duty as a first aid assistant! The gel inside of the leaves of the Aloe plant are wonderful for healing burns, cuts, and abrasions. Aloe is also one of the top choices for improving air quality; it has also been linked to freeing the home of benzene.

2. Spider Plant has a scary name, but is a pretty, powerful plant that can remove up to 90% of the toxins in indoor air within two days! NASA has reported that this fast growing plant can absorb substances such as mold and allergens, as well as small traces of formaldehyde and carbon monoxide. If you (or someone in your family) suffers from dust allergies, the Spider Plant is a must have.

1. Cactus, along with succulents, are some of the easiest plants to keep alive. They generally only require watering every 2-3 weeks and some sunshine. Cactus are also very trendy right now; open any home magazine and you’re bound to see them gracing a window sill or coffee table!
